Villa Nah, a duo of Juho Paalosmaa and Tomi Hyyppä, makes pure electronic pop with plenty of emphasis on catchy melodies and meticulously crafted soundscapes reminiscent of the 1980’s.

Stylewise, Villa Nah is related to 80’s bands like Heaven 17 or New Order, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. Once you’ve heard their debut single, you’ll know that Villa Nah is about nothing else but their own style and sound.

The single opener ”Ways To Be” is built around a synth bassline, handclaps and the kind of irresistible melody that you can’t shake out of your head once you’ve heard it. ”Envelope” is a tad more dark with an uplifting synth melody serving as a hook. “Daytime”, in contrast to it’s title, evokes a strong sense of night time.

Villa Nah’s vocalist Juho Paalosmaa is a very charismatic performer, whose great sense of stage drama brings to mind a young Glenn Gregory or Philip Oakey. Indeed, Villa Nah is not merely a production duo but an actual band with a live show that is not to be missed.

CIRCLE CHILDREN

March 2, 2009 by

I have always loved Armand Van Helden and lately have been digging into old stuff such as Circle Children releases on Strictly Rhythm in the early 90’s. Oldschool but so fresh!

Circle Children – Zulu (Change Mix)

Circle Children – Mamba Mama (Passion Mix)

I actually prefer Armand’s New School Mix but could not find it on youtube.

GOOD MORNING SUNSHINE!

February 25, 2009 by

Since I’m having a great morning and the sun is up I decided to post this song for you. The song has a happy vibe and I’m keen on the lyrics. Enjoy!

a bit from the lyrics…

Thought I’d never see
The love you found in me
Now it’s changing all the time
Living in a rhythm where the minutes working overtime

We are always running for the thrill of it, thrill of it
Always pushing up the hill
Searching for the thrill of it
On and on and on we are calling out and out again
Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me

and so on…..

BERLIN CALLING!

February 24, 2009 by

It was ever so nice to be back in Berlin.

Lil’ Tony rocked Panorama bar and I have to say, Tony’s brand new track was one of the highlight of his set – not too bad! The word on the dance floor was Lil’ Tony = Small Man, Big Heart – Big Music!

Our French friend Cyril DJ Deep Etienne was once again flawless even though he was feeling sick – that didn’t stop him for laying down some of my favourite house classics. Jack!

Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann ruled Berghain like always!  Ben started with the vocal tracks on his album and Elif was great on the vocals. Elif it was so nice to finally meet you!

Big thanks to the Ostgut crew for such a nice dinner and for taking such good care of us!

Also, once again congratulations to Ben Klock for his brilliant album on Ostgut. It was great to celebrate this with you! See you soon in Helsinki for an other night to remember.

BEN KLOCK @ COSMIC CITY – REDRUM HELSINKI

this was nutz!!

And here’s BEN KLOCK – SUBZERO for you – I’m loving it!

Begone Dull Care

Can’t wait for the new Junior Boys album release! Only one month to go to the US release date. The album already leaked few weeks ago and straight link was posted to my facebook wall so i just couldn’t avoid downloading it (even though i would prefer hearing new music from vinyl, not as bad quality mp3’s). Too bad! 😦

junior boys

Their previous album “So This Is Goodbye” was such a big thing for me couple years ago that i think the new one won’t be my new favorite album from them, but anyway, it’s amazing how these guys keep on sounding so fresh and so good year after year. My favorites from the album were the first two songs, “Parallel Lines” and “Work”, but since they weren’t on youtube, i decided to post “The Animator”:

Too bad that they rarely do any remixes, but luckily there’s quite a few nice remixes of their songs. Tensnake‘s remix of “FM” has been probably the most travelling remix of Junior Boys in my dj bag so here’s a link to that one as well. Enjoy!
